Pantsar-Kallio to manage the strategic programme for environmental operationsOn 19 January 2012, the Finnish Government appointed university lecturer Dr Mari Pantsar-Kallio (43) as the leader of the strategic programme for environmental operations for the period 1 February 2012 - 30 September 2015, or for the term of the strategic programme if this is shorter.

New credit model for export financing introduced at the start of 2012A new credit model for export financing, which will improve the competitiveness of Finnish export companies, will enter into force at the beginning of 2012. The acts on publicly subsidised export and shipbuilding credits and interest equalisation were ratified by the President of Finland on 29 December 2011.

Changes in application for a worker’s residence permit from 1 January 2012The practices at the work permit units of the Employment and Economic Development Offices of Uusimaa, Tampere, and Lappeenranta will change with effect from the beginning of 2012. The changes are due to legislation on the basis of which Finland will introduce biometric residence permit cards. The cards will incorporate, for example, fingerprints.

Fingerprints to be introduced to residence permits early next yearFinland is introducing biometric residence permit cards at the beginning of 2012. At the same time residence permit stickers for travel documents will be discontinued.

Design: A State AffairTogether with the cities of Espoo, Vantaa, Kauniainen and Lahti, Helsinki is the World Design Capital 2012. The Finnish state is strongly involved in this project. The Ministry of Employment and the Economy, as well as the Ministry of Education and Culture, are providing joint financial support amounting to five million euros.

The ministers emphasised that successful integration requires positive attitudes and functioning interaction between various population groups. |
