Lapin Letka – promoting gender equality in education and working life in Lapland

Project duration: 1 March 2008 – 31 December 2013

Implementing organisation: Rovaniemi Municipal Federation of Education/Lapland Vocational College

Objectives

  • to systematically reduce horizontal and vertical gender segregation in education and working life,
  • to increase awareness of equality issues and promote equality planning in practice,
  • to incorporate the gender perspective and equality expertise in work communities and educational institutions.

Target groups

The target group includes teachers and student counsellors in various educational institutions, as well as students and their parents, and other employees and elected officials in municipalities and joint municipal authorities. In addition, it covers other employers in Lapland, employees, unemployed people and those facing the threat of unemployment, as well as guidance and counselling staff in, for instance, Employment and Economic Development Offices.

Key measures and products

The project is being implemented together with educational institutions, municipalities and other organisations. It supports gender equality work by organising tailored training and assisting in marketing and the drawing up of equality plans. Various methods and materials are being produced and tested in order to dismantle segregation and increase equality expertise. On a general level, equality thinking is being inspired through briefings, marketing and various analyses and studies.
