Technical harmonisation and safety
The Ministry of Employment and the Economy is responsible for an essential part of the so-called technical business infrastructure. This area of responsibility comprises e.g. technical harmonisation relating to products and services and promotion of technical safety. Other important areas are conformity assessment and quality promotion. The goal is to ensure that metrology, accreditation, testing, control, certification and standardisation activities meet national and international criteria and create an internationally competitive business environment for Finnish companies. Quality promotion aims at improving the competitive position of Finnish undertakings especially in terms of quality.
The
main responsibility for issues relating to technical harmonisation and
security rests with the Division for Consumer Policy and Technical regulation.
The Ministry of Employment and the Economy participates in the safety research carried out in its administrative branches. In practice this takes place through research and survey projects. The Ministry finances such projects of public utility that can be utilised in the planning and implementation of safety policy.
