Working life development

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy tries to develop working life life through legislation, various projects, programmes, studies and analyses, and by improving working practices. The aim is to boost productivity and improve the quality of working life.

Employment legislation is a means of strengthening the balance between security and flexibility. In the same way, various measures are aimed at career extension, making it easier to harmonise work with family life, and enabling older people to remain at work longer.

The Finnish Workplace Development Programme (Tykes 2004-2009) supports the development of working practices in places of work in Finland. In projects financed under the Programme, management and staff develop the work jointly. The Tykes Programme continues as part of the work of the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes).

The EU Structural Funds projects are also responsible for product development to promote employment, skills, corporate development, innovation, etc. The purpose is to spread best practices. The Ministry of Employment and the Economy is the authority in Finland with responsibility for the European Regional Development Fund and the European Social Fund.
